Typographic Narrative Installation
Completed at ArtCenter College of Design in Graduate Typography II in 2020,
this Typographic Narrative Installation series addresses the philosophy of Athleticism
and the Shaping of Body Image. According to the NSCA, “Athleticism is the ability to
repeatedly perform a range of movements with precision and confidence in a variety
of environments, which require competent levels of motor skills, strength, power, speed,
agility, balance, coordination, and endurance.” Athleticism is both a past and current
issue, with personal body image being a central focus in how athletes and individuals
see themselves today.
Poster Series
The ultimate goal and focus of this typographic narrative installation is to bring awareness to the concept of athleticism, and how it has directly impacted the daily lives and psychological shaping of body image in both athletes and individuals of all skill levels. Athletes are often hyper-focused on not only their sport, but how their body is performing and viewed–whether in a game or outside of a compition. Athletes may have more mental strength than some, but they are not
immune to the restrictions of negative body image or emtion, and in fact, they are more prone to it by the fact that their primary focus is on pushing their body to the limit daily.

Motion
By strengthening the mental capacity of individuals in relation to athleticism, the foundations of thought surrounding one’s own perceptions of body image can begin to be reshaped and reformed if connected to a positive thought. The ultimate communicated message will bring
individuals together under the philosophy and premise of athleticism, and could go even further to shape body image from a personal perspective.
Billboard Application
The billboard application of the typographic narrative installation series highlights the fact that with the right mindset and abilities to set aside negative thinking, athletes–and individuals in general–have the ability to “neutralize” the limitations that are set in the mind. One of the best skills that top athletes master include refraining from negative self-talk and imagery.
“Limitations Neutralized” is intended to be abstract in nature and attention grabbing, boldy reiterating the message that limitations do not have to be there, it all begins in the mind.

quite as literal as previous messaging, and instead relates more to the bold, confident nature of many elite athletes.
