Learning Disorders Exposed

A conceptual book project, Diagnosed is a book on exposing
learning disorders/differences and how a perceived weakness can
be turned into a strength–when given the right tools. The book’s
visual nature and content take the viewer into instances of how one
would visually see typography and images with various learning
differences. The content is meant to encourage and inspire those
with learning differences, as well as bring awareness to the nature
of these conditions.







Diagnosed Spatial

The spatial component of the Diagnosed book release is intended to bring in the viewer through a large scale rendering of the primary imagery of the book. Bringing to life an artist’s perception of the brain’s neurons, this beautiful image grasps the top of the exhibit that defines learning disorders and differences for those unaware of what it may entail.
Learning differences aren’t always represented in expected ways, and it is vital that awareness of these daily struggles becomes more normalized so that change can occur.

Diagnosed dives into the literal and scientific components of what constitutes learning disorders and differences. Learning disorders and differences are often used interchangeably when being described by doctors and the general public, however, one of the primary purposes of Diagnosed is to begin to reiterate that these perceived disorders can in fact be strengths. When given the right tools and information to conquer a learning difference,
people can develop a new approach and mindset to these challenges. While the challenges themselves often do not dissipate, by looking at the lives of globally successful individuals that have struggled with and overcome said differences, a new perspective emerges.





Diagnosed Poster

The Diagnosed Poster displays the release of the Diagnosed book, sponsored by the California Academy of Sciences. While this book release and concept are hypothetical at this time and an ArtCenter related project, it ultimately laid the foundation for future thesis development and inspiration. By exposing learning disorders and differences while
highlighting first the scientific aspects of these challenges, the groundwork was laid for future research regarding this subject from a graphic design perspective.
